Paramount have confirmed that the Watchman Director's Cut Blu-ray will not be making it to Australia. Instead we will get a 2-Disc special edition. Australia also misses out on the ‘Maximum Movie Mode’ Video Commentary where director Zack Snyder uses two screens to visually show various behind-the-scenes snippets while the movie plays; as well as the Zack Snyder hosted community screening which allows viewers to watch the movie along with his live commentary on their Blu-ray players during Comic-Con on July 25. If you are still wanted all the special features, you can buy the director's cut version complete with digital copy from Amazon.com or the extra special Amazon Exclusive Nite Owl Edition. Both US versions have been confirmed as region free.

For those left wondering what special features the Australian version did end up getting, the complete specs are below. The Australian 2-disc version can be preordered from Chaos with free shipping and 5% off with the promo code "CHAOSPACK".

The Australian version hits shelves on July 30th, the same day that the complete motion comic Blu-ray will also hit shelves.

whyyyyyy!?

what was the explanation for this travesty?! i excitedly bought it expecting this extra footage, and was disappointed to discover it wasn't there. is this because they're planning to do another release later and gouge the australian's wallets further?!?

YES, I did the exact same thing. I have been holding out and waiting for this release on blu-ray with both the director's cut and Zack Snyder spilt screen as my main reason for buying it on blu-ray. It was like christmas for me, as I was telling everyone, that features like these is what blu ray is about. I bought the blu-ray home and couldn't find the split screen, and couldn't find the words DIRECTOR'S CUT anywhere. Thought these features might be easter eggs. But alas, got onto the net to see if I was missing something and alas, I found this site. Pity I didn't find it yesterday before I paid money for something that from a refund point of view is not faulty, but isn't what I was wanting. Just another reason to buy your stuff from overseas. This hasn't been the first time we have missed out on something that the U.S got. I understand there are sometimes copyright clearences for some features, but it seems that the english R2 versions of some DVDS are usually the same as their R1 versions, and I would only assume it will be the same for Blu-ray releases. I remember reading that sometimes features (in regards to DVD) have to go on r4 releases so they can make room for subtitles and other languages, but THIS IS BLU RAY. This ain't fair.

For what it's worth, I asked at JB today and they said Australia will be getting the Director's Cut around the end of August. Go figure.

Oh, and then there's the uber-cut later in the year to come :)

My comment is the third one talking about how ripped off I felt when I discovered my blu-ray copy was the theatrical version. I naturally just assumed it would be the directors cut, because it makes no sense that it wouldn't be.

The studios just made me regret my first legitimate movie purchase in years - I would have been better off downloading the full rip from bittorrent. And now I will.

I was inspired to write a blog or a whinge whichever you want about this. I call it "And you wonder why the australian film industry sucks"

so now they're announcing a 5 disc ultimate cut to be released around November in the US. It's apparently got Tales from the Black Freighter woven back into the film, as well as additional footage - 3 1/2 hour cut. Any word whether we might get this cut here? In fact why didn't we get the Director's Cut?? Was there any reason?

I've heard the Ultimate Edition is out overseas. I enquired about it at JB Hifi the other day, and they said they'd had a lot of requests for it, not to mention a lot of people that were p*ssed off that they thought they were buying the Director's Cut initially and got saddled with the Not-Special-At-All Edition. No word yet on when Ultimate Edition is going to appear in the Land of Oz. Crossed fingers it isn't too far away!
